This is an example of the 1796 No Stars Quarter Eagle struck in white metal. It is unique and has a famous pedigree. This is a restrike possibly struck by Joseph Mickley or Montroville Dickeson from dies the mint sold as scrap. This 1796 No Stars $2.50 struck in white metal completes the two piece set of 1796 struck in gold with and without stars.

Pedigree: Chapman, Reed, Rice, Kosoff's 5/55 and Melish sales, Stacks 3/91, Heritage 3/98. It was recently authenticated and certified MS 63 J-23a by PCGS.
