This is an incredible uncancelled Chile obverse die used to strike the 5 Pesos denomination. It is the ONLY known uncancelled die from Chile for ANY denomination.
Uncancelled dies are extremely rare from any country. It is in perfect condition and has a matte finish on the face of the die. The 5 Pesos was not struck in matte, so this die was likely made to strike a special presentation piece in matte proof, not the regular circulating coins. Or it is an unfinished die that was treated with a matte surface. It is a fascinating discovery and unique in private hands.
This die was purchased in a unique group of numismatic rarities from Chile. There were also nine complete feeder fingers that were struck by both the obverse and reverse dies and a set of PCGS certified Chilean 10 Pesos struck with two obverse dies and two reverse dies.
